Torreya State Park

Image
At our last stop we visited a couple of the Florida State Parks. The first one was Torreya State Park. Here they had a number of trails to walk. Unfortunately, the week before we arrived, the area had seen significant rain fall and many of the trails were flooded. We were able to walk around the campground and even saw a couple of yurts that are available for rent. This area of Florida was hit very hard in 2018 when Hurricane Michael, a category 5 hurricane made landfall at Mexico Beach just south of the area. The damage is still evident as we walked around the park. At this park, we also found the Gregory House. This house was build in 1849. It was originally on the other side of the Apalachicola river in Georgia. You can read more about the history here –> https://www.floridastateparks.org/learn/tour-gregory-house. It was moved and rebuild on the Florida side of the river in 1935. It currently sits high on the bluff over looking the river. Amazingly, the house s...

Always Bring Water When You Go Hiking

Image
We had a chance to check out some really nice hiking trails at the University of West Florida. They have a great system of trails for hiking and another section of trails just for mountain biking, all on the campus of the university. We didn’t get a chance to check out the mountain bike trails, but I’m sure they were just as great as the hiking trails. Cole wanted to provide a PSA for everyone out there. When you go hiking, always bring water with you.

Fun in Louisiana!

Image
We spent a few days in Louisiana on our way back from Texas. We saw a beautiful full moon and some great sunrises. We passed though Baton Rouge on our way to the campground and saw a Drago’s restaurant. For those who don’t know, Drago’s is a restaurant in downtown New Orleans and they have the best chargrilled oysters we have ever tasted! It was a little too far to go back to Baton Rouge once we got to the campground. We didn’t want to leave Cole for that long. Instead we found a place called Dons Seafood close to where we were. You gotta love the Google search ‘chargrilled oysters near me’! So off we went to Dons. We were not disappointed! This place definitely gave Drago’s a run for their money. All you chargrilled oyster lovers, check out the pictures below. The camera did not add 10 pounds to these oysters! They were huge!

Request From a Reader!

So one of our readers had a request to see some pictures of me. Why I have no idea, but here you go! See I really am on this trip!!

You Never Know What You Will Find On The Beach

Image
We spent a few days at the Matagorda Bay Nature Park. This park is located on the Colorado River where it meets the Golf of Mexico. You can see it on the map below. Matagorda Nature Rv Park This was one of our favorite places so far. Well honestly, we have enjoyed all of the places that we have been. Each location offered something different. One morning on our beach walk, Cole and I came upon this. I chatted with the people and asked them if they had spent the night on the beach. Yep! All five of them. Two adults and three kids. Now that is what I call camping! Beach walking was one of our favorite things to do here. All that walking makes you very sleepy!

Back At Buc-ee's

Image
We stopped at another Buc-ees today. This time I took some pictures of the inside. I only made it to the middle of the store. That is because that is where the keep the jerky! We tried the brisket sandwiches on the recommendation of several of our readers. Excellent! Thanks for the tip! We got the sliced brisket sandwiches. Next time time I think I will try the chopped brisket.

Doing Laundry at the Campgrounds Really Has Changed!

Image
When we arrived in Houston, it was time to do a little bit of laundry. Off to the laundry room I went, detergent, laundry and roll of quarters in hand. What a surprise when I got there! No coin, slides on the machines, just a machine on the wall, begging for me to put a credit card in it. So I did. And I got me a shiny laundry card complete with a chip in the card. Woo hoo, let’s get these clothes washed. Woah there partner, you just bought the card…..now you need to put some money on the card. Oh good Lord, all I want to do is wash these clothes! Several more donations to the box on the wall and I finally got the laundry finished. Oh and I got the keep the laundry card. Perhaps there will be another laundry room where I can use it. Once in San Antonio, there was more laundry to do. Off I went again to the laundry. What would I find in this campground? Here, the machines took credit cards directly. However, I noticed someone using their phone to start a washer....

Never Seen Anything Like This - This Is Gas Station!

Image
I have never seen a gas station this big! Just for cars and RVs. No Tractor Trailers allowed! This is Bucee’s in Katy, Texas. Apparently Bucee’s is not just a gas station, but a destination. We stopped at another Bucee’s closer to San Antonio. It wasn’t as big outside, but the inside was crazy amazing. They had a bakery, fudge, and every kind of Jerky you could imagine. They were carving up a freshly smoked turkey for sandwiches and had pulled pork sandwiches as well. There was so much to see and so many good smells! I think that was part of the reason we arrived in San Antonio later than we planned!! Next time I’ll take pictures of inside. Bucee’s in Katy Texas This just one set of pumps. The small bank. This is the car wash area. Dash and T/T Dash at the pump. Texas Size Jerky

Fun in Louisiana!

Image
While were in Louisiana, we had some time to chill out and have a little fun. Ed did such a great job of washing and shining up Dash that he was able to trim up his beard just from his reflection. I got a chance to practice my golf. Everybody got a chance to go for lots of walks. Griddle Breakfast – Made by the Griddle Master A campfire. With real wood this time.
